This diagram shows the elements of a home roofing job, with an explanation below.

1. BP SHINGLES
Premium shingles, with heavy-duty felt mats and thinker asphalt and granule coatings, provide longer life and, as a result, come with higher warranties.

2. EAVE PROTECTOR
A vulnerable area because of winter freeze / thaw cycles, BP's Gripgard or Progard Plus Waterproofing Membrane provides excellent protection against water infiltration. Glassgard, a fiberglass base sheet, is an alternative to Gripgard or Progard Plus in the eaves.  Good roofing materials make the difference.

3. UNDERLAYMENT
To shed water that may be driven under the shingles by high winds, quality roofing products like BP's No. 15 Asphalt Felt Plain, Standard Asphalt Sheathing or Shingle Base Underlayment is recommended.

4. EDGE TREATMENT
For efficient water shedding at the roof's edge, a drip edge of vinyl or metal should be installed on the eaves and rake edges.  To learn more about how effective edge treatment can benefit your home, please Contact Us for a no obligation roofing estimate.

5. VALLEY TREATMENT
This is a favorite spot for snow and ice build-up. BP Slate Surface Roll Roofing is required the length of the valley. Gripgard, Progard Plus, or Mini Progard protector rolls provide the optimum protection as the base for any valley construction.

6. FLASHINGS
These are some of the most vulnerable areas for leakages - around skylights, vents, chimneys, windows, soil stacks, etc. - making waterproofing indispensable.  Roofing products like Mini Progard, Gripgard, and Progard Plus are ideal for waterproofing these areas.

7. VENTILATION
It is essential for all roof structures to be provided with proper ventilation. Check local building code for minimum requirements.

8. SOUND DECK
To have a solid foundation, a solid deck is an essential requirement.
